JUPEB/DIPLOMA/FOUNDATION BIOLOGY is divided into:
- BIO 001: GENERAL BIOLOGY
- BIO 002: MICROBIOLOGY
- BIO 003: BASIC BOTANY
- BIO 004: FUNDAMENTAL OF ZOOLOGY
At the end of the series of courses, candidates should be able to:
- describe the fundamental and levels of organization in living thing;
- explain functional units of biological molecules and principles of interactions among organisms;
- apply basic statistical concepts in biological studies;
- describe cells as living organisms and their roles in nature;
- explain the application of cell biology in medical, industrial and biotechnological sub-sectors of economy;
- discuss diversity, characteristics, structures, functions and taxonomy of living organisms(micro-organisms, plants and animals);
- enumerate economic importance of living organisms;
- describe the morphological and biochemical characteristics of micro-organisms;
- conduct laboratory and field practical in Biology, Botany, Microbiology and Zoology;
- highlight and explain the basic concepts of ecology;
- explain the roles of evolution in the hierarchical classification of living organisms via a vis the theories of evolution; and
- define basic terminologies of Genetics and state Mendelian Laws of inheritance.
